Phone Conversation

The protocol between me and Swati was not to talk to Soumik on phone so that he does not get reminded of me not being with them now. But curiosity got better of him as he took the phone away from Swati while we were talking. It was a fun conversation that I had with him, about what he is doing and such, to which he replied that he is getting ready to go to Bhaiya's (his cousin's) house in the auto-rickshaw. I told him I am coming to see him soon, with lots of toys. Apparently Swati told him earlier that he is being very naughty, and will grow up to be a monkey. So he wanted to know whether I am a big monkey also :-)

After the initial stages of mostly fighting these two kids (Soumik and Aritra) are more friendly these days. Which is relief for everybody!

Do you read Dennis the Menace? In our house you won't need to! Soumik is the menace around here. It used to be "in a good way" but ever since his 3rd birthday it was mostly embarrassing way. The less said the bettter.

He and Swati are visiting hometown now. My sister will get married on July 11th, so they decided to go early and join the foray. We were very concerned of him not speaking Bengali well. And we continue to be worried.

But it is fun in some way. He has grown very fond of my sistern ("Moni" to him). When Swati makes maggi he wants to share it with Moni, "Some for me, some for Moni". They were traveling to some place in a car, when the car brokedown and everybody got out of the car. He quipped, "Guys, what happened guys!?". It was hilarious because nobody there talks like that :-)

Since they are away, I got some free time, and thought of renewing my blogging skills.

Long Time No See

Ah, good to be back. Lots of things happened, and I got busy (obviously). We moved to India (from USA). A big change for Soumik. Hope he is taking it well.

These days he is more naughty than nice. Sometimes bordering on being "badmash" (not a kind of mashed potato; it means vile). At times like that he causes us extreme embarrassment. Like the last weekend. We were invited to Rano's place. He started pushing Hiya and Pritu after a while. No amount of scolding could do any good.

Otherwise I think he enjoys what he sees around. Yesterday he bought a car for himself from Lifestyle. He chose three cars, I quietly discarded two at the counter. After getting inside our Honda he was looking all over the place for the other two :-)

Whenever we pass by the Magrath Road, and he sees the big blue building, he says, "Mama, Baba's office", and then following up with, "Baba, look look, Baba's office" :-)

A hug...

These days he is quite settled in the day care. When we leave him there, he still cries. But at the end of the day, he does not want to return. When Swati goes to pick him, normally he stays put and makes loving noises at her. It is like, I reckon you, and I like the fact that you are here, but wait, let me play some more. Today things changed a bit. As Swati stood on the doorway, he came running at her, with hands stretched out :-)

It is sad that we might end up changing the day care. Poor kid. He has to readjust.

Ring and him

We put his gold ring on one of his fingers. He took it out. Then with a couple of attempts he put in back on his finger. "Good boy".

Also today he pointed to a pen lying on the table, and sort of said, "Ota dao". He can't speak properly yet. So this sounded great.

He also said "Kaka" this morning.

Daily Chores

This blog is about my son Soumik. He is sixteen months old now. He is very cute and very naughty. Everyday is a dot on the learning curve. So instead of losing all these interesting incidents into the black hole of our memory, I thought I should write them down in this form.
